About Arabic Learning Games

Arabic Learning Games is a free, browser-based website for people who want a more enjoyable way to practise Arabic. The games focus mainly on vocabulary, spelling, word recognition and recall, with different levels and topics available across the site.

The website is designed primarily for international learners of Modern Standard Arabic (MSA). The interface is English-first, while Arabic remains at the centre of the learning activities. The games run directly in the browser, with no app installation required.

Why We Created Arabic Learning Games

Learning a language takes time. Vocabulary needs to be encountered repeatedly, recalled, forgotten and practised again. Progress can be slow even when the learner is motivated and the teaching is good.

At the same time, the way people use digital media has changed. Short content, rapid feedback and immediate rewards have become normal parts of everyday online life. Language learning cannot provide the same kind of instant progress, and some learners find the necessary repetition difficult to sustain.

Arabic Learning Games was created to make part of that practice more enjoyable.

The games are intended to supplement structured Arabic learning. They give learners another way to review vocabulary, recognise words, practise spelling and stay engaged between lessons or study sessions.

What You Can Practise

The website currently offers several types of Arabic learning games:

Depending on the game, learners can choose difficulty levels and vocabulary categories, use hints, listen to pronunciation and receive immediate feedback on their answers.

Designed for Arabic

Modern Standard Arabic is the main language variety used across the website. Vocalised Arabic and pronunciation support are included where appropriate, particularly when they can help learners recognise and understand the words they are practising.

Who The Website Is For

Arabic Learning Games is intended for learners at different stages, including beginners, students already taking Arabic classes and independent learners who want additional practice. Teachers and parents may also use the games as supplementary activities.

The website is open to learners worldwide. You do not need to study with Arabic Academy Malaysia to use it.

Arabic Academy Malaysia

Arabic Learning Games draws on the experience of Arabic Academy Malaysia, which was established in 2008 to serve Arabic language and culture in Southeast Asia, particularly Malaysia.

Arabic Academy Malaysia provides Arabic language classes, translation services, Arabic calligraphy activities and other Arabic-related educational and cultural services. Its teaching work involves specialised native Arabic speakers with experience teaching learners from different backgrounds.

ArabicLearningGames.com is an internationally focused project. It complements the Academy’s more structured educational work by providing a lighter form of Arabic practice that learners can use independently.

How the Project Started

The project was initiated by Dr Ghaith Mahaini, who has managed Arabic Academy Malaysia since 2015 and has accumulated years of experience working with Arabic learners, including teaching.

One recurring observation was that learners can become tired of repetition even when they remain interested in learning Arabic. This has become more noticeable as digital habits have shifted towards shorter and faster forms of engagement.

Arabic Learning Games grew from the question of whether some of the repetition required in language learning could be made easier to sustain through short, interactive activities.

The website does not try to make Arabic learning instant. Learning a language still requires patience, practice and time. The aim is simply to make some of that practice more enjoyable.

Our Approach

We focus on practical activities that require learners to recognise, remember, match or construct Arabic words. The games are designed to be easy to access, mobile-friendly and useful for short practice sessions.

As the website develops, we plan to expand the range of Arabic practice while keeping the same focus on Modern Standard Arabic, accessible browser-based activities and useful reinforcement of structured learning.
