Practise recognising Arabic letters

Dot Detective is a free Arabic alphabet game for beginners. Compare letter shapes, count their dots and recognise letters in connected forms and short words. A round has eight questions, with no timer.

How to play

1. Choose a starter round, all letters or your own selection.
2. Read the question and select an answer. Use a hint when you need one.
3. Review the feedback, then move to the next question. At the end, revisit letters that need more practice.

Why do some Arabic letters look alike?

Letters such as ب ت ث share a basic shape. Their dots distinguish them. Position in a word can also change a letter’s form, so recognising both dots and shapes helps you read.
