Learn 28 Arabic letters, their sounds and forms

This free Arabic alphabet resource introduces each letter through native-speaker audio, its shapes in words and vowel practice. Choose a letter above to explore pronunciation, joining and example words. The lessons use English explanations alongside Arabic script.

Where should a beginner start?

Start with a few letters, listen to their names and sounds, and compare their shapes. Read Arabic from right to left. Try Dot Detective for letter recognition, Letter Linkers for connected forms and Build the Sound for listening and Arabic vowels practice.

How do vowel marks help you read Arabic?

Short vowel marks (harakat) tell you how to sound out a consonant. Fatha, kasra and damma give short “a”, “i” and “u” sounds. The letter lessons also introduce long vowels, sukoon, shaddah and tanween, with recordings to hear the differences.
